US electricals retailer Best Buy is to create up to 1,000 UK jobs as it expands its Geek Squad customer support service.
The plans include creating a team of ‘agents’ that will be located in every Best Buy store to offer after-sales and technology support.
The retailer is launching in the UK in Spring 2010 with the first stores opening in Southampton, Thurrock and Merry Hill.
Up to 8,000 jobs will be created in the UK over a five-year period.
Qualified agents will advise people over the phone, access computers remotely, and go out to a customer’s home to help fix technology problems.
Geek Squad Service, new business and multi-channel group director Andrew Brem said: “Geek Squad will quadruple our tech support team numbers during the next 18 months as we look to expand our business further. We are confident that there is huge potential for growth in consumer technology support over the next five years.”
