Lloyds Pharmacy parent intends to intervene formally
Boots and Alliance UniChem are confident that their proposed merger will go ahead despite opposition from Celesio, the parent company of Lloyds Pharmacy.

In a statement released yesterday the two companies acknowledged that Celesio had filed with the Competition Appeal Tribunal and announced that, '[they] intend to seek permission to intervene formally in the proceedings'.

The merger was given conditional clearance by the Office of Fair Trading on February 6.

Celesio believes that the deal represents such a major transformation of the market that it needs to be questioned.

Boots and Alliance UniChem added: 'Both companies remain confident of a satisfactory outcome.'
