The Llantrisant outlet will open in June, with the other stores to start trading towards the end of the year.
Borders also opened a superstore in Gateshead last month and the company says that its new stores will add at least 130,000 sq ft (12,080 sq m) of retail space to its bookstores this year. The company also said it will be making further announcements.
The 26,000 sq ft (2,415 sq m) Cardiff superstore will occupy the former David Morgan department store in the city centre, while the second Welsh outlet will be located on the Talbot Green retail park in Llantrisant.
Borders trades from 36 superstores in city centres and retail parks, plus 33 small- format high street and airport bookshops under the Books Etc and Borders Express brands.
Work has begun to double the size of Borders' distribution centre in Cornwall and the company has also announced a 26,000 sq ft (2,415 sq m) superstore for Nottingham, due to open in 2008.
