During the same period its UK online business has also grown, with sales up 25 per cent and group furniture sales acrossall channels up 20 per cent.
The retailer is seeking to add as many as 10 stores, through franchises, to its global portfolio over the next five years. It is looking at sites in new markets including Malaysia, Dubai and China.
The Conran Shop managing director Nick Moore said: “We want to be the world’s leading high-end furniture store.”
Moore added that The Conran Shop was flourishing even in the tough furniture market as consumers seek out quality items that will last.
He said: “It’s predominantly been in the past four months that the trend has reversed. People are still prepared to spend large sums of money but they are interested in good value now.”
Despite its success it has still had to make some cost cuts, with 10 redundancies at its head office and it also slashed its marketing spend by 40 per cent.
The retailer operates eight stores including two stores in London, as well as stores in New York, Paris and Japan. It also operates an online and mail order business.
