Electricals retailer Dixons Retail, owner of Currys and PC World, has rolled out Google Zones across its store portfolio, representing the first store network of its kind for the Silicon Valley giant.
Dixons trialled its first Google shop-in-shop in the retailer’s flagship Currys and PC World store in Tottenham Court Road late last year and has now fast-tracked a roll out of the zones to 50 stores.
The zones are designed around Google’s range of PC laptops called Chromebooks. Manned by dedicated and trained staff, the shop-in-shops are designed to demonstrate the computers’ benefits, as the company claims they are more future-proof than traditional PCs and are simple to maintain.
In stores where Google Zones are located, sales of Chromebooks represent over 10% of notebook sales.
Dixons Retail category director for computing Mark Slater said: “A dedicated area in-store, with specialist staff on hand, is a great way for customers to experience the product and learn the benefits of a unique operating system.”
Shoppers can also try out Google’s Nexus 7 tablet and Samsung and Googe have teamed up to launch an new version of the Chromebook, which Dixons says is one of the best-selling products in its laptop range.
