HMV has recorded a “huge boost in sales” this week, mainly due to British band Oasis deciding to reunite after 15 years.
Sales across the band’s full catalogue soared by 526% week on week as music lovers flocked to HMV following the announcement that Oasis would be playing multiple live shows in 2025 at London’s Wembley Stadium, Manchester’s Heaton Park, Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, Dublin’s Croke Park, and Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium.
The retailer said sales of Oasis’ debut LP Definitely Maybe increased by 443% versus the previous week, while follow-up album (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? and live album Knebworth 1996 saw a sales rise of 684% and 209% respectively.
Pre-orders of the band’s 30th edition of Definitely Maybe, due to be released on August 30, have doubled week on week.
The sales boost follows the recent news that specialist retailer Fopp, owned by HMV, had opened its seventh UK store in Nottingham in June.
HMV and Fopp managing director Phil Halliday said: “Oasis are a truly iconic band who have made such a positive impact on British music. Sales figures from the past week, both in store and online, pay testament to their popularity across the nation.
“It’s great to see so many people revisiting their vinyl catalogue, from classic releases like Definitely Maybe all the way through to the Knebworth LP. I’m sure I won’t be the only one trying to get my hands on tickets on Saturday.”
