Fashion and footwear retailer D2 is expected to be bought back by its management after falling into administration at the end of last year.

As Retail Week went to press the deadline for offers to be given to administrator BDO had passed.

BDO said it had received several expressions of interest, many of which are understood to be trade bids. The management team, including managing director Alan Kinney, is thought to be the front-runner to buy back parts of the business.

D2 was sold by Sir Tom Hunter in January 2008 to co-founders Kinney and Jim McGonigle. Hunter is the landlord for its head office and warehouse and is thought to have been asked to cut rents on the premises.

D2 has 76 UK stores and has already closed two of its three Irish stores, losing 39 jobs. 22 redundancies were made at its head office.
