The founder of maternity and childrenswear retailer JoJo Maman Bebe, Laura Tenison, has been named Veuve Clicquot businesswoman of the year.
Tenison set up the business in 1993 and now has a £21m turnover through stores, a catalogue and online.
She is also a trustee of the Mozambique charity for infant mortality Nema Foundation, she also offers work placements for Down’s Syndrome sufferers.
“One of the most satisfying things is walking into our warehouses and seeing people whistle as they work,” said Tenison. “I hope I am a role model for business women. I want people to be happy in their jobs as well as having a healthy balance sheet. Corporate social responsibility is not about ticking boxes.”
