New Look has said 60 per cent of staff affected by the decision to relocate its buying, merchandising and design teams from Weymouth to London have elected to move with the retailer.
The value-fashion retailer began a 90-day consultation period with staff in Weymouth in January (Retail Week, January 16). It said the move formed part of its ambitions to become a global fashion player, as the location of Weymouth was a barrier to attracting global retail talent.
150 people of the 250 staff based in Weymouth will move to the London office in the summer. Of the remaining 100 staff, New Look group HR director Linda Owen said the retailer believes that “over 50 per cent of those in affected roles will be redeployed in other related disciplines”. She said that some marketers are moving to internal communications and some merchandisers to the finance department, while others “may wish to explore retail roles to take their valuable experience to our stores”.
New Look group buying director Roger Wightman said that the retailer was also recruiting for “a number of key roles” in the buying, merchandising and design teams.
