PrettyLittleThing’s founder and chief executive Umar Kamani has announced he will step down from the fashion retailer after 12 years as he embarks on “new challenges and goals” and plans to “build new brands”.
Kamani, who co-founded the business with his brother Adam in 2012, said he “could never have imagined” what the business would achieve during his time as CEO and that the decision was a difficult one to make.
PrettyLittleThing said in a statement that Kamani has been “a truly inspirational leader throughout the brand’s journey” and that it would be “forever grateful” for his input.
The founder said he would “continue supporting PrettyLittleThing on some projects over the next few months” during its search for a new chief executive.
PrettyLittleThing said its board of directors, including chief operating officer Paul Papworth and commercial director Tom Binns, will “continue to drive the brand forward while focusing on expansion plans in the US”.
Kamani said: “After 12 years as CEO and founder of PrettyLittleThing, I have made the difficult decision to step down from my position as CEO. Twelve amazing years that changed my life and I will be forever grateful for all those memories.
“I’m at the stage in my life where I need to set myself new challenges and goals, and build new brands that hopefully you all love and support as much as you did with this one.
“I was 24 when I started this brand and today, at 35 years old, I’m so proud, grateful and excited to go on my next journey.
“Here’s to the future, creating more magic and fairytales. To each and every person who has played any part in the PLT movie, thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
