The New West End Company revealed that during the last week of June, which coincided with the first full week of summer Sales, there was particularly strong footfall on Oxford Street, which jumped 14.5 per cent compared with last year.
New West End Company spokesman Jace Tyrrell said: 'About 50 per cent of our shoppers are international, with a further 25 per cent travelling into the West End from outside London. This often means that bad weather impacts less on retail footfall in London's West End than other areas, because shopping tourists are in the area to shop and will not let the rain restrict their retail recreation.'
Visit London chief executive James Bidwell added: 'West End trading figures have been outperforming the rest of the UK for the past 21 months and show no sign of abating.'
