Scottish pets retailer Acorn Pet Centres has fallen into administration.
The family run business, established in 1984, had 36 shops and employed 243 staff. It had a turnover of £10m but suffered losses over the last 18 months following expansion into several new locations.
Tenon Recovery has been appointed administrator, and will trade the business while searching for a buyer.
Head of corporate recovery Tom MacLennan said: “This is a business with an excellent brand and reputation. We have closed a number of the underperforming stores and we are confident that the stores that remain can provide a business with an positive future.”
Tenon closed 11 shops, and made 73 staff redundant. The shops that are closed are inTroon, Perth, Cumbernauld, Hamilton, Greenock, Airdrie, Kirkcaldy, Alloa, Robroyston, Dundee and Stenhousemuir.
