Retail Week looks ahead to next week with full-year figures from Ocado and half-year updates from Conviviality and DFS all on the agenda.
Conviviality
The Bargain Booze owner unveils its interim results on Monday.
The group, which also owns the Wine Rack fascia, said in November that half-year sales jumped 38%, boosted by the acquisition of drinks wholesaler Matthew Clark.
Conviviality’s retail arm, which appointed Argos chief operating officer David Robertson as its new boss earlier this week, said sales were up 0.4% in the period to £191m, although like-for-likes slipped 1.3%.
Ocado
The online grocer reports its full-year results on Tuesday.
Founder and boss Tim Steiner confounded critics 12 months ago as he unveiled Ocado’s first annual pre-tax profit in its 15-year history, swinging £7.2m into the black for the year ending November 30, 2014.
The etailer’s half-year EBITDA also rose 11.4% to £38.2m as it continued to gather sales momentum, but Steiner is yet to agree a deal with an international partner – a target he had aimed to achieve by the end of 2015.
Despite that disappointment, Ocado is reportedly being eyed by Amazon as the US etail giant mulls a takeover bid to launch its grocery proposition in the UK.
The ever-bullish Steiner will no doubt have something to say about those two developing stories.
DFS
The furniture specialist provides a half-yeartrading update on Thursday.
In October, the retailer reported a surge in full-year revenues and profits and also unveiled the acquisition of a Spanish business as it extended its international reach.
Earlier this month DFS boss Ian Filby told Retail Week that consumers were “in a good position to commit to big-ticket purchases” during 2016.
