Ex-Asda boss Andy Clarke has been named chairman of tech start-up Spoon Guru, in what is his first director’s job since leaving the grocer.
Clarke has taken up the non-executive position at the firm, which allows consumers to search retailers’ products according to their dietary needs.
Spoon Guru was founded two years ago by Markus Stripf after his wife developed food allergies.
The business has since partnered with Tesco, which has implemented Spoon Guru’s search tools into its grocery ecommerce platform.
Spoon Guru recently launched in the US and plans to expand into Australasia.
Clarke, who left Asda 18 months ago, told The Telegraph that he is now focusing on building a “portfolio career”.
On his appointment at Spoon Guru, Clarke said: “I’ve spent my career looking at ways to simplify how people shop and for someone who has spent their life in the food industry this is a great way to explore that.
“Spoon Guru is at an exciting stage of growth and it’s a great opportunity to play a supporting role.”
