Morrisons is understood to be targeting 300 M Local convenience store openings by 2014.
Morrisons has three convenience stores in Ilkley, Wilmslow and Manchester, where it opened last month.
The Bradford-based grocer is also on track to launch its non-food transactional website later this year, according to sources close to the situation.
The 300-store figure was revealed at Morrisons’ annual management conference this week. Sources within the conference leaked the figure to pre-eminent Morrisons blogger Steve Dresser.
The sources also reported that all of the grocer’s supermarket stores will be reworked into its Stores of the Future concept format in the next three years.
The stores will reportedly be categorized by size with larger stores more heavily revamped than smaller stores. They will also benefit from a roll-out of IT services.
Commercial director Richard Hodgson had previously said the grocer is targeting “hundreds” of stores.
Morrisons declined to comment.
