Morrisons has poached Sainsbury’s Rachel Eyre as its new chief customer and marketing officer.
Eyre, who currently serves as head of brand communications and creative across all of Sainsbury’s brands, including Argos, Habitat and its Tu clothing label, will switch to big four rival Morrisons in 2021.
Eyre will succeed Andy Atkinson, following his promotion to group commercial director, and will report directly to chief executive David Potts.
Morrisons said Eyre will take on responsibility for all customer insight and marketing communications, including advertising and target marketing. She will also oversee the grocer’s PR, customer services and local solutions teams.
Eyre has spent the past five years at Sainsbury’s, initially joining as head of marketing design and delivery.
She has held a number of roles in her time with the supermarket giant, including head of marketing planning, propositions and properties, and head of future brands – the venture arm of Sainsbury’s commercial team.
Prior to that, Eyre spent almost six years at Barclays, culminating in a two-year stint as director of brand, reputation, citizenship and marketing.
Potts said: “Rachel’s appointment is important for Morrisons as we continue to listen carefully to our customers and further improve the shopping trip.
“Rachel has an outstanding record and I am really pleased to be welcoming her into the business. Her appointment represents another step in our plan to develop the next generation of retail talent at Morrisons.”
