Morrisons is removing locks from its trolleys in a bid to improve the shopper experience.
The Bradford-based grocer said it is removing 150,000 trolley locks from 279 of its supermarkets “because many customers find them inconvenient and time-consuming”.
Morrisons’ own research has identified that 43% of consumers that use trollies find locks inconvenient.
Morrisons will keep trolley locks in its city centre stores and shops that are located on hills.
Morrisons chief executive Dalton Philips said: “Our nation is getting busier. We have less free time than previous generations and customers have told us that they want a quicker shop. The removal of trolley locks is just one of the many improvements we are making to our store – to make for a faster and easier shopping trip.”
The grocer said the move forms part of an investment programme to “make shopping trips easier for customers”. Morrisons is redesigning stores, refurbishing cafes, and extending store opening hours.
