Pret a Manger has revealed that it will be axing its coffee subscription for loyal customers and replacing it with a “new and simpler offer”.
The Club Pret subscription was introduced four years ago and offers up to five barista-prepared drinks a day as well as a 20% discount on food, for £30 a month.
The current subscription will end in September as UK managing director Clare Clough said “it’s time to rethink how it works”.
The new offer means Club Pret members will be entitled to 50% off up to five Barista-made drinks a day for a lower fee of £10, and the coffee chain will charge £5 for existing and new subscribers until March 31, 2025.
Pret is also removing the current 20% discount on food and will eliminate dual pricing across food. Clough said the company “never really go comfortable” with it.
The current scheme means subscribers pay £360 a year and Clough said its priority is to “focus on better value for everyone” as most Pret customers are not Club Pret members.
Pret previously credited its subscription service for helping it bounce back to profit in the first half of 2023.
The company has scaled back on some prices in the announcement, with its 100% organic Arabica filter coffee costing 99p again and its all-butter croissant will drop to £1.99.
Clough concluded: “By making these changes, we are underlining our commitment to providing better value for all our Pret customers, as well as the Pret quality and service you’ve come to know and expect.
“I am extremely grateful for the ongoing loyalty of all of our customers and I hope to see you in our shops very soon.”
