Lask will now have overall responsibility for the development and implementation of all HMV's online activities. The newly appointed director will lead a 100-strong team across product, marketing, systems and operational functions, including the warehouse fulfilment centre in Guernsey, as well as the HMV digital department.
Along with finding a replacement head of internet, Lask will also be recruiting a head of digital, following Mark Bennett's resignation last month to pursue a career in Clean Air technologies.
Lask joined HMV in August 2004 as head of marketing, but was promoted a year later to head of internet. He will take up the e-commerce director role with immediate effect, which has been vacant since John Taylor retired from HMV in July.
Lask said: 'I'm absolutely thrilled to be on the UK & Ireland board overseeing the broad scope of HMV's e-commerce activities. The online and digital arenas are now one of the main platforms for growth of the HMV business.
'My clear aim is to build on this by drawing on our unmatched brand authority, product knowledge and service culture to create the biggest and best music and entertainment online services available.'
