The announcement will be made at the BRC’s annual industry dinner, which is being held in London tonight.
British Retail Consortium director-general Stephen Robertson said: “At a time when retailers are scrutinising all their costs, HMV’s decision to join us is clear evidence of the value of BRC membership to retailers of all types. By supporting and using our influence we are all helping to create a business environment which helps retailers and customers alike.”
HMV chief executive Simon Fox said that he was pleased to join the BRC. “It is important that our industry unites behind a strong, single voice,” said Fox.
So far this year Aldi, Thorntons and multi-channel specialist N Brown have all been among the BRC’s list of new members.
