Dunelm has recorded an uplift in sales as its customers prepare their homes and gardens for the warmer weather.
The homewares retailer reported that sales were up 69% to £399m in the 13 weeks to March 26, a significant improvement on the same period last year when its stores were only open for click and collect.
Sales were also up 40% compared with the third quarter in 2020, where the final three weeks were impacted by the onset of the pandemic.
Excluding those three weeks, sales rose 31% on a two-year basis.
The percentage of digital sales for the quarter also rose, up 12% year on year to 35%.
Dunelm said that its customers had responded well to its winter Sale, which took place at the beginning of the quarter, as well as its new summer ranges as they prepare for the new season.
The retailer added that while it recognises the macroeconomic situation and its impact on consumer spend, it believes that it can continue to gain market share.
Dunelm added that it has been stockpiling higher levels of inventory than normal to tackle the ongoing supply chain issues.
Chief executive Nick Wilkinson said: “It has been another good quarter for Dunelm with sustained growth across all of our homewares categories, particularly as customers ready their homes and gardens for the summer.
“Performance has been strong across all channels and our new facilities for ecommerce and furniture fulfilment are now fully operational, which will enhance our multichannel proposition, whilst providing the capacity for further growth.
“Whilst the macro environment remains uncertain, with significant headwinds and increasing pressures on the consumer, our wide product range offers choice for every budget, whether replacing everyday essential items or refreshing a room in your home.
“The resilience of the Dunelm business model and the ability of our colleagues to adapt quickly to changing circumstances give us confidence in our plans and we remain well placed to continue to grow market share.”
