The GMB members have rejected a 3 per cent pay rise from JJB Sports and are seeking a higher guaranteed basic rate for all workers in the warehouse, as well as an equal bonus scheme.
JJB Sports founder and chairman David Whelan branded union officials 'communists' when he took over pay talks from the retailer's chief executive Tom Knight. The strike, if it goes ahead, will be the first in the company's history.
