Sales at John Lewis rose just 2.9 per cent to£47.4 million for the week. John Lewis director of selling support Rob Collins said: 'We saw consistently good trading through the week, but competition from the FA Cup held back footfall on Saturday and reduced our overall increase.' However, online sales rocketed 56.2 per cent.
At Waitrose, sales jumped 6.5 per cent to£72.6 million, but the supermarket said the unpredictable weather made sales challenging and resulted in a slight shortfall on budget.
