Marks & Spencer marked the first day of Fairtrade Fortnight today by becoming the first retailer to convert all its coffee and tea to Fairtrade and extending its commitment on Fairtrade-certified cotton.

The retailer's entire range of coffee and tea is being switched to Fairtrade in a change M&S estimates will increase the value of all Fairtrade instant and ground coffee sold in UK supermarkets by 18 per cent, while the value of Fairtrade tea is estimated to increase by 30 per cent. Fairtrade coffee will be sold in M&S stores from today, with Fairtrade tea following from April.

M&S already sells Fairtrade-only tea and coffee in its 200 Café Revive coffee shops.

From today, T-shirts and socks made from Fairtrade-certified cotton go on sale in 36 stores nationwide and on Marksandspencer.com.
