Retailer on the hunt for stores
Marks & Spencer is expected to open in Taiwan by the end of the year, according to international property group Jones Lang LaSalle.

The retailer is considering a joint venture with a Taiwanese partner. Jones Lang LaSalle Taiwan head of retail services Mara Wang said: 'Marks & Spencer has been observing the Taiwanese market for a long time and is interested in setting up shop here.'

M&S has been working with Jones Lang LaSalle to find a local partner and suitable store locations. It has expanded into most Asian markets, with the exception of Taiwan and Japan.

Wang added that the retailer hopes to open standalone stores or combine with shopping malls, with net sales floorspace of at least 21,600 sq ft (2,005 sq m).

An M&S spokeswoman said: 'We are always looking at countries around the world but nothing has been signed and sealed in Taiwan.'
