Online marketplace eBay has removed fees for private sellers across all categories except motors in the UK.

The move allows private sellers to sell for free across the platform and no longer pay final value fees or regulatory operating fees.

eBay is expanding the no-fee initiative after it first introduced free selling in its fashion category earlier this year.

The marketplace is also evolving the experience to “foster a more streamlined and safe selling platform” including simplified selling where merchants can list items within minutes using guidance about pricing and shipping, alongside AI-generated descriptions and photo enhancing tools.

Simple delivery is another feature being rolled out across categories to offer a tracked and fully covered delivery at competitive rates, prepaid by the buyer.

eBay Balance will also be introduced in mid-October, giving sellers the opportunity to use their earnings to shop on eBay, promote their listings, purchase delivery labels, or withdraw available funds.

Exclusive features are also being rolled out to business sellers such as enhanced seller protections and free one-to-one support with seller clinics for merchants to access support.

eBay UK interim general manager Kirsty Keoghan said: “eBay is constantly improving the marketplace experience in order to deliver on what our customers want.

“Removing selling fees across categories is designed to give buyers access to greater breadth and depth of inventory while creating a simplified and streamlined experience for sellers.”
