Ocado’s departing co-founder and commercial director Jason Gissing sold three million shares in the online grocer the day he revealed his retirement.

Gissing, who revealed on Tuesday he will retire in May, made £15m from the share sale.

The sale represents a third of the shares Gissing is able to sell. He still holds 15 million shares, half of which are invested in the business’s trust.

Gissing is leaving the etailer to focus on his four young children and environmental projects he is involved with.

Ocado’s shares have rocketed since May last year when it struck a deal with Morrisons to launch its online food offer.
