Casino owned discount etailer CDiscount has collapsed less than a year after it was launched in the UK.

CDiscount was put into provisional liquidation earlier this month and liquidator Michael McAteer, a partner with Grant Thornton Ireland is speaking to interested parties to sell the business.

The company has offices in Louth in Ireland and in Welwyn Garden City in Hertfordshire.

Twenty people from the Welwyn Garden City office have been made redundant.

Grant Thornton said it has had several interested parties and hopes to find a resolution by the end of this week. The business will be sold as a going concern or the assets of the business sold off.

It said that CDiscount, which was a joint venture between Irish businessmen Ciaran and Niall O’Donoghue and French giant the Casino Group, had struggled to lure shoppers who were unfamiliar with the name and the concept.
