Asda is to recruit almost 3,000 more staff across the UK as it continues to grow.
About 800 new jobs will be created in Northern Ireland, which is expected to receive the biggest employment boost from the expansion. In addition,£10 million will be invested in recruiting an extra 2,000 staff across the UK.
On average, each of the group’s 289 stores will take on seven new staff and the group is also expected to open more stores. Over the next 10 days, Asda will open four stores in Northern Ireland and five stores in England and Wales, including its largest-ever Asda Wal-Mart Supercentre in Milton Keynes. The creation of jobs comes as parent company Wal-Mart announces its third-quarter results today.
The supermarket giant recently signed a deal with port operator PD Teesport to develop a£20 million import centre near Middlesbrough that will create 300 jobs and provide Asda with its first logistics operation in the Northeast.
