Retail job losses reach highest level in more than two decades

Almost 150,000 retail jobs were lost last year

Almost 150,000 retail jobs were lost in 2019 as the industry battled high costs and changing shopping habits.

The job losses were among the worst suffered by retailers in the past 25 years, according to a study by the Centre for Retail Research which put the total at 143,128 across locations such as high streets, shopping destinations and small shopping parades.
