HMV’s outgoing boss Simon Fox has been appointed chief executive at Daily Mirror publisher Trinity Mirror.
Fox said: “I am delighted to be joining the Trinity Mirror team.
“I have been enormously impressed by the people I have met so far and look forward to starting shortly. Whilst the Group’s current financial performance is robust, we will need to continue to evolve the business to meet the changing needs of our customers.”
David Grigson, Chairman of Trinity Mirror, said: “Simon will provide the strategic leadership the company needs. His experience gives him a current and in-depth understanding of how consumers’ habits are changing and the technology that is driving these changes. He is a great team player and leader and his skills and experience perfectly complement those of the existing executive team.”
Fox revealed he was leaving the retailer earlier this month. He departs in September.
The newspaper group’s former boss Sly Bailey stood down in June after nine years.
Fox’s experience in the challenges posed by the growth of online was a draw for Trinity Mirror, it is thought.
Fox was close to taking the top job at ITV three years ago but decided to stay at HMV to complete his three year strategy.
Fox told Retail Week earlier this month that he was on the lookout for a chief executive role after leaving HMV.
