Selfridges has been forced to close some of its Oxford Street window displays after asbestos was found.

According to The Independent, five of the front windows at the retailer’s flagship London store will be closed for a month following the discovery of the hazardous material.

Selfridges did not shut the shop during the removal, but insists there was no risk to the public.

Selfridges communications director Christine Watts said: “It was found at the top of five out of the 26 windows. They were sealed immediately and the Health and Safety Executive was informed. Everything was done according to the Health and Safety Executive guidelines, with approved contractors and so on.”
