Staff to be consulted this week
London department store Harrods faces disruption over the Easter break after unions threatened strike action.

Amicus, which represents more than 100 mechanics and engineers at the store, will consult workers this week on whether they want to be balloted over strike action. The union claims that if its members went on strike, the store would not have adequate insurance to trade.

According to the union, Harrods has refused to negotiate over plans to close its final-salary pension scheme to both new and existing members.

Last month, Harrods said that it would close the scheme, which has a£111 million deficit, on April 6. Amicus submitted plans for an alternative arrangement on Friday, which Harrods management is considering.
