Amazon has unveiled plans to open a new fulfilment centre in Daventry next year to meet demand for its growing Marketplace arm.
The etail giant’s latest warehouse is being developed to expand its 150 million strong product range and support 40% growth last year in the number of businesses selling through its Marketplace platform.
The online retailer, which launched its Handmade platform last month, will create more than 300 permanent jobs to staff its new fulfilment centre, including operational, IT and HR roles.
Vice president of UK operations John Tagawa said: “The new site in Daventry will enable us to continue to expand our product selection, support more third-party sellers including small businesses with our fulfilment expertise and meet growing customer demand in the UK.”
The Northamptonshire fulfilment centre will be Amazon’s third in the Midlands and is the third it plans to open next year, alongside new warehouses in Doncaster and Essex.
The retailer currently has 12 fulfilment centres across the UK.
