The 59-store retailer said it has slowed its store-opening programme and is instead focusing on improving revenues from existing stores. At present, 48 United Carpets stores are run by franchisees and the retailer is aiming to convert the remaining company-managed stores to the franchise model. Further store openings are still planned for northern and central England.
The company said that, while market conditions remain challenging, the situation is not as severe as last year. The company is investing more in training and customer service with the aim of further improving sales on the existing estate.
