Usdaw national officer Joanne McGuiness said: 'Usdaw had no prior knowledge of the closures, but we scheduled a meeting with Kwik Save to make sure that our members would get the money they were entitled to.'
However, union members, who were made redundant last week after the retailer shut 79 of its 182 stores, have now been reassured they will all receive payments due within the next two weeks.
McGuiness added: 'Our full-time officers will also be passing on contact numbers for telephone enquiry lines at Morrisons and United Co-op. They have indicated that they are interested in talking to former Kwik Save staff about possible vacancies within their companies.'
The retailer operates the bulk of its stores in the north of England and Wales. Last week, Planet Retail analyst Bryan Roberts said: 'Kwik Save has been in a terminal decline for the best part of 10 years. It is hard to see how the company can survive in such a minuscule state.'
