Sales at the US retail giant totalled US$16.9 billion (£9.18 billion) for the four weeks ending April 28, an increase of 13.7 per cent compared with last year. Sales were up 6.8 per cent on a like-for-like basis.
The group said toys and games, including traditional toys such as balls and outdoor games, sold particularly well during April. The international division also performed well, with sales of US$5.9 billion (£3.2 billion) for the month, an increase of 29.9 per cent on the same four weeks last year. Like-for-like sales are expected to be up by between 2 per cent and 4 per cent during May.
