London’s West End retail sales rocketed 11% in June, radically outperforming the UK drop of 0.6% recorded by the BRC earlier this month.
According to the New West End Company, the 11% rise is the strongest sales performance recorded in the West End since March 2010.
New West End Company, which represents 600 retailers on Bond Street, Oxford Street and Regent Street, said the strong sales are set to continue, forecasting an extra 600,000 visitors to the capital in the last two weeks of July, as tourists from the UAE and Saudi Arabia head to London during the pre-Ramadan period.
A New West End Company spokesman said: “The summer months are incredibly important for West End retail as shopper spending reaches a mid-year peak around holiday season - as seen by the soaring sales figures in June. With a +6% hike in visitors last month and 600,000 extra visitors set to come into the West End in July, strong summer sales are set to keep tills ringing.”
