Hunt will head a team of seven and replaces Brian Hill, who has moved to sister company Entertainment UK. Hunt worked for Tesco for seven years, having previously worked for Woolworths Group companies (then part of Kingfisher). His start date is yet to be confirmed.
Woolworths head of trading for entertainment Jim Batchelor said: 'Alan is a skilled and experienced operator in entertainment retailing and we are delighted to have secured his services. He is passionate about Woolworths and driven by the business plan we have in place. We expect him to make a huge contribution to our future.'
Hunt said: 'I enjoyed my time with Tesco but, having previously worked for EUK, the chance to return to the Woolworths Group was too good to pass up. There's bags of potential to develop music and video in stores and online at Woolies, as well as an unrivalled brand heritage.'
Woolworths operates from 821 high street stores across the UK and recently announced plans to open a further 100 stores over the next four years.
