Amazon will start shipping the large-screen version of its Kindle e-reader to the UK later this month.

The move is ahead of the rumoured launch of Apple’s touch-screen “tablet” computer.

Amazon’s Kindle DX, which has a 9.7-inch screen, is already available in the US, but shoppers in the UK have as yet only been able to buy the six-inch international version.

The large reader, which costs $489 (£307), can hold 3,500 books.
