John Lewis & Partners has posted a rise in sales during its Black Friday and Cyber Monday promotional events.
The department store chain registered a 14.8% jump in total sales during the week to December 7 compared with the same week last year.
Total sales for the full Black Friday promotional event were up 10.2% compared with the equivalent trading days last year. Fashion sales were up 12.5% and beauty, wellbeing and leisure sales jumped 17.9% during the week.
Electrical and home technology sales soared 34.8%, bolstered by tablet sales. However, home sales fell 2.3% despite a 43% jump in sales of cookware due to Black Friday promotions.
Waitrose & Partners total sales fell 2.5% during the same week despite the return of its 10 fine wines at £10 promotion. Ambient and non-ambient food decreased 1.7% and 2% respectively and home and general merchandise sales dropped 12.4% during the period.
John Lewis Partnership total sales increased 6.1% during the period to £309.63m up from £291.92m the same week the previous year.
