Joules has reported soaring full-year profits and sales in what boss Colin Porter says was driven by “growth across channels and product categories, both in the UK and internationally”.
The fashion specialist posted a 19.4% rise in underlying pre-tax profit to £15.5m in the 52 weeks to May 26.
The retailer recorded a 17.2% boost in group revenue to £218m, driven by a 43.5% jump in international sales, which comprised 16.1% of group sales during the period.
Joules group gross margin fell 90 basis points to 54.8% during the period, which the retailer said was in line with expectations.
The fashion chain’s number of active customers increased 8% to 1.5 million in the year.
The retailer’s ecommerce sales climbed 58% and represented approximately half of retail revenue.
Joules ended the financial year with a 125-strong store estate across the UK and Ireland.
Chief executive Colin Porter said: “Joules has delivered another strong performance this year with growth across channels and product categories, both in the UK and internationally. These results in a challenging retail sector reflect the strength and appeal of the Joules brand, the flexibility of our ‘Total Retail’ model, and the success of our carefully managed product extension strategy.
“We are pleased with the group’s performance to date in the early stages of our new financial year, with trading in line with our expectations. Looking ahead, while the consumer retail environment is anticipated to remain challenging, particularly in the UK, the board and I believe that Joules remains well-positioned for continued success both in the UK and our target international markets.”
