Gap sales fell in April after a more positive first quarter where sales grew 6% to $3.3bn (£2.2bn) and like-for-like sales lifted 4% in the three months to May1.
Sales in April were flat compared to the same month last year with like-for-like sales across the group dropping 3%.
International like-for-like sales including the UK were flat for the quarter and fell 5% in April.
Gap chief financial officer Sabrina Simmons said: “With sales growth across all of our brands and significantly improved earnings, we are pleased with our first quarter performance.”
Today Urban Outfitters also released its first quarter sales to April 30 and said total company sales for the period soared 25%. Total like-for-like sales including its direct business grew 26%, with like-for-like sales at its stores up 11% for the quarter.
Abercrombie and Fitch enjoyed a strong international performance in April with total sales soaring 94% to $40m (£26.5m).
Total sales across the group in April were up 8% to $199m (£132m) however like-for-like sales dropped 7%.
