Supermarket giant Morrisons has reduced the prices on 130 items at the start of the year including bread, meat and cheese to help shoppers struggling with ongoing inflation.
The grocer announced yesterday it would be reducing prices across its own-brand ranges including Savers, Wonky and Essentials.
The reductions will focus on staples, with the price of a medium white loaf of bread reduced from 45p to 39p, while pasta sauce will be down to 39p from 57p. While in fresh food, bacon, cooked chicken and cheese, as well as fruit and vegetables including apples, pears and potatoes have all had prices reduced.
Frozen ready meals, fish fingers and prawns have also been slashed along with tins of beans, chopped tomatoes and tuna chunks.
The retailer also said that prices will be cut on some cleaning products and household essentials too, such as toothpaste, laundry powder and washing-up liquid.
Morrisons said it has invested £16m in cutting prices as customers increasingly look for help with their shop and to make ends meet after Christmas.
Morrisons chief executive David Potts said: “Our Savers range offers customers great value on the products they buy every day. We want to do all we can to help when it comes to the cost of grocery shopping and by investing in the range and cutting the prices further, our customers will see a noticeable impact on their budgets at a time when they really need it.”
