Waitrose has unveiled plans to expand its export business as demand for products continues to grow in international markets.
Waitrose said sales in its export business grew 14% as compared to this time last year. The grocer said it intends to grow international sales a further 10% in the coming year as demand for its own-brand products surged by 92% in the last decade.
Waitrose currently exports to 42 territories, including Malaysia, Chile, Jordan, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand and nine Caribbean islands. It said it is in discussions to expand its offering in markets in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Caribbean.
Waitrose executive director James Bailey said: “Waitrose has truly been overheard around the world and shoppers from Antigua to Vietnam want to get their hands on our products, which are renowned for taste, quality and provenance.
“We’re now expanding our international business to cater to the growing global demand from local residents and British expats who miss the taste of Waitrose from home.”
