Entertainment retailer HMV has acquired Gamerbase, the company which runs multiplayer video game centres in some of its stores.
Gamerbase concessions already allow customers in some HMV stores to play multiplayer video games on a try-before-you-buy basis.
HMV now intends to roll out Gamerbase technology in several more of its stores.
The next store to be fitted out will be Manchester, where 50 player units will be installed, occupying 2,000 sq ft. It is due to open in time for Christmas.
HMV group chief executive Simon Fox said: “With games becoming an increasingly significant part of our product mix, we’re delighted to announce that Gamerbase is now a part of the HMV Offer, demonstrating our commitment to Games, and enabling us to develop a premium-quality gaming experience. Gamerbase has shown that the idea of a social gaming experience within a retail environment can be beneficial to our customers and the Games Industry alike.”
