Consumers are expected to splash out a record £10.8bn online this December, according to industry group IMRG and consultants Capgemini.
Shopping online will hit its peak during the first two weeks of December, with Monday 2nd December singled out as the busiest day in terms of sales volumes.
Total estimated spend during the final nine weeks of the year is expected to reach £20.4bn.
Tina Spooner, chief information officer at IMRG, said it is the first time in three years that annual etail growth is expected to exceed the level recorded in the previous year, with 2013 sales on target to achieve 15% growth on last year.
“The increase in the number of browsers that convert to buyers is also positive news for retailers as they gear up for the key festive trading period, with the average conversion rate expected to reach pre-recession levels during the fourth quarter,” she added.
