Portuguese retail conglomerate Jerónimo Martins has opened its first five stores in Colombia, in the cities of Pereira, Santa Rosa de Cabal and Armenia.
The outlets operate under the new Ara banner and are neighbourhood discount stores located in residential areas. Their average sales area ranges from 3,230 sq ft to 6,460 sq ft.
The grocer is looking to invest E400m (£342.5m) in Colombia over the next three years, and has set a goal of operating 150 Ara stores in the country by 2015.
