JD Sports Fashion group like-for-like sales increased 1.7 per cent in the eight weeks to May 30.
This is an improvement on the 0.3 per cent like-for-like rise it recorded in the nine weeks to April 4.
In the most recent eight-week period, the like-for-like sales growth was driven by a 1.2 per cent increase in sports and a 4.5 per cent jump in fashion.
However, the sports fashion retailer remained cautious in the interim management statement.
JD Sports said: “While hitherto satisfactory, maintaining the gross margin comparative with the previous year may prove increasingly challenging later in the year – particularly having regard for exchange rate pressures.
“However, the board remains encouraged by the progress made so far this year towards achieving results in line with management expectations.”
The retailer will post its interim results on September 22.
