John Lewis records “another huge week” as sales at its department stores climbed 14% last week in the run-up to Mother’s Day

Revenues reached £68.2m in the period to March 15, and all the retailer’s shops generated sales increases.

John Lewis recorded “another huge week” for electricals and home technology. The category was up 33% over the week, driven by tablets, computing and white goods.

Fashion sales rose 7.3% as beauty lines did well, and furniture and home was ahead 7.4%.

John Lewis head of retail implementation and format development Tim Harrison said it had been “an excellent week of trade”.

Sales at sister grocery business Waitrose rose 14.6% to £120m over the week.
